Staro Chive Seeds — 75 Seeds
Staro chives grow fine, onion-flavored leaves. Snip a few above the base and let the clump keep growing.
Packet: 75 seeds
Planting at a glance
- Season: Herb — see planting window
- Start: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before planting out, or direct sow
- Seed depth: ¼ inch
- Germination: Usually 7–14 days around 65–70°F
- Final spacing: Set small clumps about 6–8 inches apart
- Light: Sun to partial shade
- Harvest planning: Make a light first cut only after clumps are firmly established; perennial clumps fill out over time
When to plant
Plant during your local cool growing season. In colder regions, use spring or late-summer/fall sowings and allow enough growing time before hard freezes.
How to plant
- Prepare loose, well-drained soil or a clean seed-starting mix. Start indoors 6–8 weeks before planting out, or direct sow.
- Sow ¼ inch deep. Keep the seedbed evenly moist until seedlings emerge. Then water when the soil needs it, allowing excess water to drain.
- Thin or transplant to the listed final spacing. Give seedlings sufficient light and check moisture as roots establish.
How to harvest
Snip leaves above the base without removing all the growth from a young clump.
Aunt E’s tip: Grow a few small clumps so you can rotate your kitchen cuttings.
Growing notes
Timing is a planning range, not a guaranteed harvest date. Temperature, moisture, variety and season affect the result. Count from the sowing or transplanting point stated above.
