All Year Round Butterhead Lettuce Seeds

Sale price  $3.50 Regular price  $3.99

All Year Round is a butterhead lettuce for tender leaves and small heads. Its name does not replace a local planting calendar: lettuce still grows best during suitable cool weather.

Packet: 75 seeds

Planting at a glance

  • Season: Cool season
  • Start: Direct sow, or start small transplants
  • Seed depth: Surface sow, press into moist mix and cover only very lightly
  • Germination: Usually 7–14 days around 60–70°F; high heat can inhibit sprouting
  • Final spacing: Thin head lettuces to 8–12 inches; use closer spacing for baby-leaf harvest
  • Light: Full sun
  • Harvest planning: Baby leaves may be useful in about 30–40 days from sowing; full-size plants commonly need 60–80 days

When to plant

Plant during your local cool growing season. In colder regions, use spring or late-summer/fall sowings and allow enough growing time before hard freezes. South Florida outdoor window: September–February.

How to plant

  1. Prepare loose, well-drained soil or a clean seed-starting mix. Direct sow, or start small transplants.
  2. Surface sow, press into moist mix and cover only very lightly. Keep the seedbed evenly moist until seedlings emerge. Then water when the soil needs it, allowing excess water to drain.
  3. Thin or transplant to the listed final spacing. Give seedlings sufficient light and check moisture as roots establish.

How to harvest

Pick outer leaves, cut baby leaves above the crown, or harvest a head at the size you prefer. Quality declines when plants become stressed or bolt.

Aunt E’s tip: Keep sowings small and staggered during the suitable season so every head is not ready on the same day.

Growing notes and sources

Timing is a planning range, not a guaranteed harvest date. Temperature, moisture, variety and season affect the result. Count from the sowing or transplanting point stated above.
