60–70 days from direct sow — Onion Seeds - Bunching - Crimson Forest

Crimson Forest bunching onions are a striking, non-bulbing heirloom variety that produce vivid crimson-colored stalk bases and lush green tops. The mild onion flavor makes them versatile in the kitchen—perfect for fresh garnishes, stir-fries, soups, and salads. Their vibrant color and high anthocyanin content also add a nutritional boost to your meals.

Grow style:

  • Containers: Thrives in pots at least 8–10 inches deep, making it a great choice for balcony or patio growing.

  • In-ground: Performs best in loose, well-drained soil with full sun; works beautifully in rows or clumps.

  • Raised beds: Excellent for maximizing yield in limited space.

  • Hydroponics: Adaptable to Kratky or NFT systems for year-round indoor production.

  • Small-space gardens: Ideal for compact growing areas and succession planting.

Prolific? Yes; grows in clumps that produce multiple usable stalks. With proper care, you can harvest outer stalks while allowing the center to continue growing for extended production.

Sowing Instructions: Sow seeds directly outdoors or start indoors for earlier harvests. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and 2–3 inches apart. Maintain consistent moisture during germination. Prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Harvest at any stage—from tender young shoots to mature, full-sized bunching onions.

Average Seed Life: 2–3 years
Packet: 50 seeds
