Cultivating Growth and Community: Ashley McGhee of 4Js Botanicals
We're excited to introduce our "Growfluencers" series, highlighting individuals who are nurturing change in our communities through agriculture. Our first feature spotlights Ashley McGhee of 4Js Botanicals in San Antonio, who's transforming the Texas Hill Country with her innovative approach to farming.
Ashley describes 4Js Botanicals as "an acre nursery and demonstration farm. We have a high tunnel for year-round growing, raised beds, in-ground plots, and we're building a fruit tree orchard." Her vision extends beyond just cultivation; it's about creating a thriving ecosystem.
Ashley's farming philosophy is rooted in sustainability. "We use sustainable, organic practices including companion planting, crop rotation, and integrated pest management," she explains. This approach demonstrates a deep respect for nature's wisdom and cycles.
But 4Js Botanicals is more than just a farm. Ashley is cultivating a movement. "We host workshops, farm-to-table dinners, and partner with local community organizations. It's about growing food, yes, but it's also about growing relationships and resilience." This holistic approach to farming resonates with the broader community.
Ashley's passion is evident when she speaks about her mission: "Creating a space where our community can learn, grow, and heal. Seeing folks reconnect with the land, especially youth – that's the real harvest." Her work goes beyond agriculture; it's about nourishing both body and soul.
Ashley's approach to farming has a powerful message. "Farming isn't just a job; it's a revolution. We're reclaiming our agricultural heritage and writing a new story for our communities – one seed at a time." This perspective highlights the transformative potential of agriculture.
The seasonal farmer's market at 4Js Botanicals is a community hub. "It's about fresh food, yes, but it's also about fresh connections," Ashley notes. Community building is at the heart of her work.
When asked about her motivation, Ashley's response is inspiring: "Farming is our birthright. It's resistance, healing, and reclaiming what's ours. We're not just growing food—we're growing power." Her words underscore the profound impact of her work.
You can follow Ashley's journey on Instagram and TikTok @2asplus4js, or find 4Js Botanicals on Facebook and YouTube. Their Spring Plant Sale is a highlight of the season.
As a fellow farmer now running my nursery in Coastal Georgia, I sincerely appreciate Ashley's work. She demonstrates that authentic influence comes from touching lives and transforming communities. Her efforts in the Hill Country complement our work on the coast, showcasing the power of collaboration in biodiversity.
This series will continue to spotlight these authentic Growfluencers—individuals sowing seeds of change and reaping hope. In this garden of life, we're all growing together.
Stay tuned for more inspiring stories from the world of transformative agriculture!

What a great piece on Ashley. “Farming isn’t just a job; it’s a revolution. We’re reclaiming our agricultural heritage and writing a new story for our communities – one seed at a time,” sums it up beautifully.
